The June session will focus on working with geriatric patients, facilitated by C. David Cash, JD, LLM, of Professional Risk Management Services, Inc. (PRMS). Mr. Cash has no relevant financial relationships with ineligible companies to disclose.

Psychiatrists today often are asked to see patients in age groups they have not previously treated and for which they do not have subspecialty certification. Whether you are in a rural area without a geriatric psychiatrist and are being asked to treat geriatric patients or you are simply aging in place with your patients, we will offer strategies in caring for those older patients while at the same time managing your own risk. Those with subspecialty training will also benefit from these risk management reminders.

Educational Objectives:

• Recognize when to incorporate a capacity determination into your informed consent communications with geriatric patients
• Identify various professional liability risks associated with geriatric psychiatry
• Identify at least two risk management strategies to minimize professional liability exposure when treating geriatric patients>br>
