The December session explains the importance of knowing the legal standard of “duty to warn” in Pennsylvania; recognize online activity and impact on patients; recognize when to withdraw from care while protecting patient safety and minimizing liability; and provide three strategies to minimize the risks inherent in treating dangerous patients.

Educational Objectives: After attending this program, you will be able to:
• List the critical components of a risk assessment
• Evaluate when to communicate with family of a patient at risk for suicide even if the patient did not give consent for such communication
• Explain the standard of care factors that will be assessed in a medical malpractice lawsuit involving patient suicide
• Discuss the common pitfalls when performing a risk assessment
